Welcome to my world!

Journal Entries of the Highlights of 2008

What a difference a day makes.  We now have President Elect Obama!  And rather than going to Patagonia, Jeffree and I are headed to Washington, D.C. for the Inauguration.  God, this is crazy.  We only have plane tickets and hopefully magic will happen between now and January 18th when we land in the sea of people who had the same idea.  We want to be part of history.  We need a place to stay and tickets to the event.  It’s time for another adventure and that it will be.

Also, I reconnected with my friends from Castle Rock, Kevin DeCosta and Daniel Ruyman.  We had a great time together and they helped me remember names I haven’t heard for years.  The good old days.

Two big events this past week.  The Maria Shriver Women’s Conference in Long Beach and the Haute Dog Howl-oween parade.

The Women’s Conference was packed with 14,000 empowered women who were inspired by Gloria Steinem, Dr. Oz, Maria Shriver, Bono, Bonnie Raitt, Billie Jean King, just to name a few.

The Haute Dog Parade for Howl-oween had 600 dogs plus!  Largest pet parade in the world and Nabia got her picture taken repeatedly.  We were pirates and I’ll add photos as I get them.

Jeffree has been taking a class this summer and has created an awesome website that I would like to share.  It will show you the work he’s been doing as well as his project at the Art Institute of Portland.  He is thriving and enjoying life to it’s fullest.

Be sure to watch his spots in “Get Reel”.  I’m especially proud of “Begin the Begin”.

My wrist is pretty much healed.  So much so that I visited the Bay area this past weekend and video taped the wedding of Misty Winter.

Michael Phelps has just won 8 gold medals and I’m sitting here with a broken wrist. I couldn’t get my flip-flop untangled from a chain rope encircling a park a foot off the ground so my body fell flat on the pavement and somewhere in the distance between standing and lying on the pavement, my wrist took all of my weight. I now have a “distal radius fracture” and had surgery last week. I’m now toting a titanium plate and I guess that makes me the newest member of the Bionic Woman’s club of Long Beach, CA. I’m obviously not an Olympian!

I don’t know how anything else this year can top what happened this month with Stevie Wonder.  Someone at work said, we need a big name to give awards at our event at the CSUN Conference (largest disability conference in the world).  I suggested Stevie Wonder but everyone said it would be impossible to get him because people had tried for many years with no success.  That is all I needed.  After contacting my resources (the 6 degrees concept) I had the information I needed to find Stevie but I had no idea what determination it would take.  After leaving many messages, the phone rang and I was told, yes, Stevie was interested.  And he came to our event, gave a very heartfelt message to everyone, presented awards and let us take photos.  He even promised us a benefit concert.  He is truly Mr. Wonder Full.
